The OZEV grant is now open for landlords, who can receive up to 200 grants per year for residential EV charge point installations and a further 100 for commercial installations.
The grant covers 75% of the total cost of charge point installations, up to a maximum of £350 per socket, so a £1,000 installation will set landlords back £650.
We have known for some time that the OZEV grant would be opened to landlords following the Government’s announcement last year that the OZEV grant would end for homeowners, who must now stump up the whole cost of installation.
The decision to shift funding from homeowners to renters is great news for the rental sector, but bad news for homeowners. As always, what the Government gives with one hand, it takes away with the other.
If you are renting property and want an EV charge point installed, you can contact your landlord and ask them to install one. However, there is no legal requirement for landlords to install EV chargers, so your request is just that.
In our experience, most landlords are happy to install EV chargers, but they might ask you to put something towards the cost of installation.
