Quick review
The Andersen Quartz delivers smart charging wrapped in what is arguably the best-looking package on the UK market. A compact wall-mounted unit, the Quartz manages to pack in serious features whilst maintaining a slim design that puts most competitors to shame.
Despite its size – just 286 x 172 x 110mm – the Quartz can deliver up to 7.2kW on single-phase or 22kW on three-phase supplies, making it one of the more versatile home chargers available. Maximum current sits at 32A, and the unit weighs between 3.4kg and 5.2kg installed depending on configuration.
Safety is addressed with built-in 6mA DC protection conforming to EN 62955, plus 30mA AC earth leakage protection. The unit also features PEN fault detection conforming to BS 7671 regulation 722.411.4.1, which means no earth rod is required – an advantage that simplifies installation and reduces costs.
The Quartz features real-time health monitoring, start-up self-testing, earth monitoring, welded contactor monitoring, and PME monitoring. Security is handled through 128-bit SSL AES encryption for smart connectivity, with Bluetooth using TLS encryption for setup.
Installation is straightforward. Cable entry is possible from both rear and bottom positions via 25mm entry holes, and the unit mounts flush to the wall using four fixing points. Once installed, connectivity is handled through WiFi (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz) with Bluetooth BLE 5 used for initial setup via the Andersen app.
The Quartz enables smart charging capabilities including solar integration, scheduled charging, and tariff compatibility. The RGB LED status light provides charging status at a glance – solid white for standby, pulsating green when charging, solid magenta when waiting for a scheduled charge, and solid orange when waiting for sufficient solar generation.
With regulatory compliance (including The Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021), IP65 weatherproof construction, and a 7-year warranty, the Andersen Quartz provides a future-proof charging solution. For those who want their EV charger to be a design feature rather than an eyesore, the Quartz is hard to beat.
How easy is the Andersen Quartz to install?
The Andersen Quartz features lever-style terminal connectors suitable for 4mm² to 10mm² supply cables, with a recommended strip length of 10mm. Stranded cables should be ferruled and crimped. Cable entry points at the rear and bottom of the device are supplied with 25mm compression glands.
For single-phase installations, connections are straightforward: PE, N, and L1. Three-phase units add L2 and L3 connections. The unit should be installed between 0.75m and 1.2m from ground level, and the mounting wall must be capable of supporting at least four times the weight of the unit and be fire resistant.
The Quartz is equipped with internal 6mA DC protection and 30mA AC earth leakage protection, plus PEN fault detection. Compliance with regulation 722.411.4.1 means no earth rod installation is required, which eliminates the danger of hitting buried services and keeps installation costs down.
Important notes:
- Upstream protection is not provided in the Andersen Quartz and must be supplied separately. Andersen recommends a 40A RCBO (BS EN 61009) or Type A RCD/RCCB (BS EN 61008) plus 40A MCB (BS EN 60898) with B curve.
- The Quartz provides dynamic load balancing through CT clamps. Single-phase units receive one grid CT clamp; three-phase units receive three.
- CT sensor cables can extend up to 30 metres using unshielded CAT5/6, or 50 metres using shielded CAT6 data cable with appropriate earthing.
- Maximum voltage drop allowance on the supply cable is less than 3%, dependent on length.
The unit operates in temperatures from -25°C to +40°C with humidity up to 95% RH (non-condensing), making it suitable for UK outdoor installations.
Overall, the Andersen Quartz has a typical installation process. The lever connectors make termination simple, and the dual cable entry options provide flexibility for different scenarios. The included drill template (also available as a downloadable PDF) helps ensure accurate positioning.
Andersen Quartz design
The Andersen Quartz is where the British manufacturer differentiates itself from the competition. At just 286 x 172 x 110mm, it’s compact – smaller than many rivals – and available in 11 colours with premium finishes.
The Quartz looks exceptional. The polycarbonate blend core with coated aluminium finish feels robust, without the utilitarian aesthetic that plagues most EV chargers. The optional Accoya wood fascias (+£94) transform the unit into something that complements period properties, whilst the limited edition finishes (+£185) cater to those wanting something distinctive.
The company’s ethos centres on “purity, simplicity, and craft,” and it shows in the finished product.
If you’re purchasing a tethered unit, you can specify a matching cable hook in the same colour as your charge point casing, allowing for neat cable storage when not in use. The hook measures 16cm tall by 7cm wide – a small detail, but one that demonstrates Andersen’s attention to the complete aesthetic package.
The socketed version includes a white amenity light around the socket, making it easy to connect your cable in low light conditions. The RGB status LED is positioned on the front of the unit and provides visual feedback without being obtrusive.
You can also install the Andersen Quartz on a post if wall mounting isn’t suitable for your property – useful for those with garages set back from their parking area.
Andersen Quartz Vision
For an additional £88, you can upgrade to the Andersen Quartz Vision, which adds a digital display screen to the standard unit. The display connects via a dedicated cable and provides at-a-glance charging information without needing to open the app.
The Vision variant shares all the same specifications as the standard Quartz – same dimensions, same power options, same 7-year warranty. It’s an enhanced interface for those who prefer visual feedback directly on the unit itself.
Installed prices for the Quartz Vision start from £1,218.
Andersen app and software
The Andersen Quartz connects to your smartphone via the Andersen app, available on both iOS and Android. Initial setup uses Bluetooth BLE 5, after which the unit connects to your home WiFi network for ongoing smart functionality.
The commissioning process is straightforward: press the function button three times to enter setup mode (indicated by a flashing cyan LED), then follow the app prompts to connect to your WiFi network. The app displays signal strength confirmation once connected.
App features:
- Remote charge point control and monitoring

Smart tariff integration
The Quartz is compatible with EV smart charging tariffs, including OVO Charge Anytime, with potential savings of over £400 per year claimed by Andersen.
Intelligent Octopus Go integration is confirmed for September 2025, and Andersen states that all Quartz units purchased now will be compatible when the update rolls out. There’s also a promotional offer of 5,000 free charging miles with Intelligent Octopus Go for new purchasers.
The unit is compliant with The Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021, ensuring it meets all the requirements for smart functionality mandated by UK regulations.
Andersen Quartz connectivity
The Quartz relies on WiFi connectivity (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4GHz, up to 150Mbps) for its smart features, with Bluetooth BLE 5 used only during initial setup.
A stable home WiFi signal reaching your installation location is required. If your garage or driveway is some distance from your router, you may need to consider WiFi range extenders.
WiFi connectivity is reliable for most home installations, and avoids any concerns about mobile network coverage in rural areas or blackspots.
Andersen Quartz solar integration
The Quartz offers solar compatibility on 7kW units, with CT clamp monitoring allowing the charger to respond to your home’s solar generation. The solid orange LED indicates when the unit is waiting for sufficient solar generation to begin charging.
Andersen provides two solar configurations:
Solar Basic / Adaptive Fuse: Position the CT clamp around a live conductor to monitor loads for the entire property and any generated export.
Solar Advanced: Position a dedicated Solar CT clamp around the live conductor to monitor solar generation only, with a separate grid CT clamp monitoring property load.
Note that solar integration is not available on 22kW three-phase units at the time of writing.
The CT clamp included as standard supports cables up to 25mm diameter and monitors 0-120 Amps at 0.333V. Maximum cable extension for CT sensors is 30 metres using unshielded CAT5/6 or 50 metres using shielded CAT6 with appropriate earthing.
Andersen Quartz charging speeds
The Andersen Quartz supports charging speeds up to 7.2kW on single-phase supplies. For properties with three-phase electricity supplies, the 22kW variant offers faster charging – roughly three times the speed.
Single-phase (7kW): 230 VAC, 32A maximum, suitable for most UK homes. Cable lengths available in 5.5m and 8.5m tethered options.
Three-phase (22kW): 400 VAC, 32A per phase, for properties with three-phase supplies. Cable length available in 6.5m tethered option.
Both versions support variable current from 6A to 32A via CT monitoring (Adaptive Fuse), allowing the charger to adjust output based on your home’s electrical demand.
Voltage tolerance is 230 VAC +10% -6% at 50Hz for single-phase, and 400 VAC +10% -6% at 50Hz for three-phase installations.
Standby power consumption is 10 Watts.
